I Am

Writer's picture: Jill SameraJill Samera

For my first BLOG post, I decided to show you who I am, or rather who I was, through this poem I wrote some years ago.

I Am . . .

an actor without make-up

a writer without a pen

a mother without her baby

I am

a teacher without a lesson plan

an artist who's run out of red

a dancer without the ballet garb

I am

a nurse with too many patients

a sleeper without enough zzz's

a gymnast with too many injuries

I am

a lover without a lover

a kisser

a listener

a friend

I am

A keeper without any storage

a cook without a pan

just plenty of fire

and desire

I am

Funny story:

This poem won first prize in a literary competition that was celebrated at the Discovery Festival Hurstville back in 2011. When the judge described the poem, she likened it to another poet who used animals as metaphors, rather than the 'clever' use of occupations seen here. What she didn't realise is that I was writing from real life! Ha ha. Still gives me a laugh to this day.

So here I am, a blogger without a blog plan. Enjoy the ride!
